English II - Night Extra Credit

TASK:
You are to choose one of the following prompts and complete a typed response of not less than two-and-a-half typed pages in length. Your assignment will be worth a maximum of 50 points, with points assigned based on three categories: Organization, Creativity, and Mechanics and Usage.

PROMPTS:

- Write an excerpt from Eliezer's diary after one of the key events in the story (i.e. When Moeshe the Beadle returns from the camp).

- Write a research paper on a specific concentration camp.

- Write a book review of the novel Night.

English II - World War II Research Assignment

The Task:
Individual students will be given a topic and asked to complete three assignments. The first requires that each student conduct their own research and prepare a two-and-a-half page, MLA-formatted research paper. The second requires that the students creates a five minute presentation to deliver to the class on their subject matter (note: This is not simply reading your research paper). The third requires students to either create or procure a visual aid that will help other students gain an appreciation for the subject matter that is being discussed.

The presentation must be in your own words and must be appealing to a class of high school students. Your visual aid is a stimulus used to help understanding of the topic. It may be in the form of an activity, a poster, a slide show, or another type of media, and MUST RELATE DIRECTLY TO YOUR TOPIC.

How you will be graded on the assignment:

The information you present, and the way in which you present it, will be worth 100 points. Your visual aid will be worth 50 points. The paper will be worth 100 points.

You are now entering the final phase of the book. The tragedy of the Holocaust and the the magnitude of the evens should now be at the forefront of your understanding of the novel.

Night Questions - Chapters 4-6

Hey guys!

You have now completed the questions for the first third of the book and are progressing through the novel and its ideas. By now, the text should start to become a little clearer, as the horror that accompanied World War II and the subsequent Holocaust is beginning to be awakened in you.
Please complete the following questions on Book II. They must be posted by the time you walk in the door for class on Monday, December 15 in order to get full credit. In addition to completing the questions, you should consider completing the reading of the novel over the weekend, so that you will not have homework for the Christmas Break.

Your assessment for this unit will be broken down into different parts. Here is an explanation of the parts, along with their due dates.

Final -
Essay-based - a similar format to the Caesar Final. To be taken Jan. 8-9, with grade assessed in 3rd Nine Weeks.
