1. VOCABULARY
Define the following words in no less that two sentences.

Altruism- Altruism is the unselfish regard for or the devotion to the welfare of others. As in this book it is how the SS officers don’t care for the others.
Convalescent-Convalescence is the gradual recovery of health and strength after illness.
Fascist- The word Fascist is sometimes used to denigrate people, institutions, or groups that would not describe themselves as ideologically fascist. That may not fall within the formal definition of the word.
Gestapo- A Gestapo is the Nazi secret police who were responsible for rounding up, arresting, and deporting victims to ghettos or camps. Which in the book is the SS officers.
Sabotage- Sabotage is an intentional plot that you have planned out for someone. When someone sabotages you they are possibly trying to get back at you for something that you have done.

CHAPTER 4
1. Where were Elie and his father sent to work?
Elie and his father are sent to work in the Kommandos.
2. Why did Elie have to go to the dentist?
Elie had to go to the dentist to get his gold crown removed. But when he got there he told the dentist that he wasn’t feeling very well and asked for another few weeks. He was granted his weeks and went home. He was summoned to come back later but the dentist was taken to the fire for taking peoples gold teeth for his own good.
3. How did the French girl hide her identity?
The French girl hid her identity because she looked Jewish but passed for Aryan. She also hid her identity because no one thought that she could speak in German, when really she could speak in almost perfect German. She also had fake papers so she passed as Aryan which is why she was sent to work in the labor unit.
4. From page 52, Why do you think people change so much?
I think that people changed so much because they didn’t believe in their own faith anymore. They though that this was the proof that God did not exist and they no longer felt the need to be nice or care anymore because He did not care for them.
5. What happened to Elie and his father when Franek asked for Elie’s gold crown?
After Franek asked for Elie gold crown and Elie refused to give it to him he started beating Elie’s father a gret deal. He said that he would regret it if he didn’t give it up to him. But Elie listened to his father and refused to give it to him.
6. What was Elie’s punishment for seing Idek with a girl?
Elie’s punishment for seeing Idek with the girl was that he had to be placed on a crate in front of the others and was whipped 25 times. He was in a great deal of pain and was very weak he hadn’t even realized it but he had passed out and was unable to even stand up.

CHAPTER 5
7. Where did Elie go after Yom Kippur?
After Yom Kippur Elie went to work.
8. What is the selection?
The selection is the group of prisoners who were taken to the furnace and be burned. People would go and run before the SS officers and then they will try to remember the numbers as they run before them. The numbers that are remembered and wrote down will be taken to the furnace.
9. What happened to those who stayed behind?
Those who stayed behind in the infirmary were quite simply, liberated by the Russians, two days after the evacuation.

CHAPTER 6
10. Why did Elie’s father not let him sleep?
Elie’s father did not let him sleep because he said that death would creep upon him and he would not be able to wake up.
11. Describe the events in chapter 6.
The events in Chapter 6 are all very hard. The long distances that they had to travel and all the sufferings that they had to go through. They went days without food or water. They came to the point where they were eating bread and the snow off others back. People were falling over and being shot to their deaths. The walks were long and cold. People were dropping off every step of the way. Once they reached the end of their journey they were being teased all along the way by others. These are my point of view from all of the things that happened in Chapter 6
12. Describe in a post of not less than 300 words your thoughts and attitudes on the Holocaust, the book, or Elie's experiences.
My thoughts on all of this is that there is no word to describe how this book makes me feel. I had no idea that things were this bad. After reading this book I feel sorry for those poor people who had to suffer this just because of their religion. I think that the SS officers were way to harsh on them. It seemed to me like they were doing it because they thought that it was fun. This book is very in detail.
Every step of the way Elie tells just how it is for him, and all the terrible things that he has to go through. He is only 16 years old when the book ends and it is a sad book to read when this young boy hasn’t even got to live his life like a normal teenage boy because of his religion. That is absolutely the worst thing that Elie should have to go through.
What disturbs me most about this book is when everyone starts to loose faith in God. I know that it must be hard to them to be there and suffer in such harsh ways, but no matter what you should never give up on Him. He has your life planned out for you and it would be wrong of you to give up on Him.
This book is very alive and very in detail. It tells about everything all the disappointment and tears. People don’t realize how bad off they had it and I am more in that perspective now that I have read this book. It is one of the best books about the Holocaust. It is well into detail. And I would recommend it to anyone. This is probably the best book to read if you are looking for information and a real life story. This book gets five stars and I would recommend it to anyone.

1. Altruism- the principle or practice of unselfish concern for devotion or for the welfare of others.
Coinvalscent- to reover health and strength after illness, make progress toward recovery of health.
Fascist- a person who is dictorial or has extreme right-wing views.
Gestapo- the German state secret police during the Nazi regime, organized in 1933 and notorious for its brutal methods and operations.
Sabotage- any undermining of a cause.
2. Kommandos
3. To get his gold crown extrected from his mouth.
4. She looked Jewish, she also had fake papers as Aryan to work in the labor unit.
5. They believe in their faith no more cause they thought that God wouldn't have of done this to them if he was real.
6. When Elie didn't give up his gold crown Franek said that he would regret it. Then Franek was beating Elie's father, but Elie listened to what his father told him to do.
7. They went to a different Kommandos and went straight to work.
8. Selection is a process that results in survival and propagation of some individuals, if some Jews did go into the selection the Nazis would wirte there numbers then throw them furnace to be burned.
9. The fellow Jews that would get left behind would result in them being left in the cold to die.
10. His father said that it would be dangerous for him to sleep because death would come upon him.
11. In chapter six, the Jews suffered a great deal from running in the snow. They couldn't go to sleep or else they would die by the bitter cold night.
12. In this book my feelings were really sad. I didn't know that the Jews had there way of life taken away because of Adlof Hitler not liking the religious beliefs. I couldn't even imagine thinking about if that was me and my family, wondering to know if they were still alive. if they was safe, or even when i could get to finally see them. Even though some Jews did loose their faith in God, it was that they were probably thinking "What did I do to deserve this?" But in the end God works ion mysterious ways and he tested their faith in him and sadly some of the Jews failed in their belief for him.
Also to know that these SS officers didn't even know the people that they were killing and that really disturbs me because I think no matter if a person is nice or rude they still need to die for an unjust cause.
I would diffently give this book five stars because it has true facts about what Jews had to go through. I would recommend for anyone to know about the Holocaust to read this book.

3. I knew things were awful but I had no idea they were this bad. This book is great. I sympathize for everybody who went through this and even the people who still live to this day. They must feel such agony everyday. This book is very in detail. Elie tells just how it is for him, and all the terrible things that he has to go through. If I were in his place I would probably have lost faith in god as well. I am amazed how detailed the book went into. It tells about all the pain and agony they went through. People don’t realize how bad off they had it and I am more in that perspective. It is one of the best books about the Holocaust. I rate this book an eight out of ten. I recommend this book to everyone.
